General (or Principal) Course
You have chosen to participate in a General Course with EF Language Travel. Get ready to have the unique experience of getting to know American culture and language! You are about to embark on a busy program with lots of opportunity to practice English and learn how Americans really live every day. How do you think it will be different than on television and in movies? You're about to find out! There are many aspects of your program:

Tuition:
You will be attending English classes for 12 hours per week. There you will learn about American culture and language in a classroom setting with qualified teachers. You will also extend your learning beyond the classroom with one study visit per week (learning activity outside class).

Accommodation:
If you stay in a dorm, you will have the chance to meet many other students just like you who are learning about life in another culture. Learn about their country but remember to practice your English with every interaction!

If you live with a host family, you will have the chance to see how Americans really live from the inside. Remember that your host family is also trying to learn about your culture so try to share as much as possible. Your family has opened their home to you - a stranger from another country. Remember to thank them and appreciate their hospitality.

Activities:
On your daily activities you will learn and have fun! Whether it be at an amusement park, beach, shopping plaza or American baseball game you will have the chance to see what Americans do and enjoy as well as speak with Americans to practice your new language.

Things to remember while on your General Course:
  • If your coursetown has public transportation you will need to buy a bus pass for activities. If your course does not have public transportation, you will need to purchase an EF Transportation Pass at a cost of $15 per week and transportation will be arranged.

  • While you will have several activities included in your program fee, you will be offered optional activities including a weekend optional trip. Remember to bring about $450 USD to cover these optional activities ($200 if you do not plan to participate in the weekend optional).

  • You will have a local EF representative (called a Program Coordinator) who will be running your course while in America. He or she will be available to you for any questions during your stay.

  • Always remember that "It's not wrong, it's not right, it's just different!" Remember that you came to learn something new - look at everything as an adventure and an opportunity to experience a country and culture different from your own.
